Prolific, moving and spiritual are just three
adjectives used to describe the music of the gospel sensation
known as The Lokey Sisters.
It all started in the small town of Hahira
Georgia where they used to sit on the front porch and swing
and sing and kept on swinging and singing throughout their
years of growing up. The sisters have gone through many
changes with some time off raising families which meant
changes in the line up.
Nell Lokey Porter continued to write and
compose over 300 songs and started an insurance business and
her younger sister Pat Lokey Fulghum opened and operated The
City CafÈ in Hahira. Pat's daughter Tina after graduating from
college with honors began teaching eight grade English.
Even with all their responsibilities they've
developed a beautiful three-part harmony that has given them
the opportunity to share their talents as a traveling gospel
group. Soon they met Randy Shelnut in Pensacola, Florida who
arranged the recording of their debut CD album "Are You
Ready".
The 10-song CD album was written and arranged
by Pat who also was writing songs for the group. This album
produced a single "Standing Alone" which was circulated to
more than 1,800 radio stations nationwide.
The Lokey Sisters have gone on and have
expanded their audience to include country music fans. They've
joined with the Florida Country Music Association where they
were awarded a beautiful trophy for the Gospel Singing Group
of the year and they continued to win more trophies as they
traveled out to Las Vegas to compete with gospel groups from
all across the country.
Be sure to listen to the samplers of these
great songs. Both sisters agree these songs were inspired by
God and from the first note you hear them sing, you'll know
that they feel something special from within.
